Classic Dance Club
August 2001 Newsletter
Welcome!
We wish to welcome everyone back for the 2001-2002 dance season and
the seventeenth year of the Classic Dance Club. This season promises
to be an exciting one, with a number of positive changes for the Club.
Mark September 21 on your calendar as the day of the first CDC dance of
the new season, and keep reading to find out what will be happening in
the year ahead!
President's Address
It has been a great summer for Classic's Executive. The new executive
is getting into high gear with the start of our 17th year. In
order to address the concerns about admission prices, this summer we
found a facility that allows us to lower admission prices while still
providing a wonderful dance experience. For the 2000-2001 season, we
are able to lower the prices to $12 for members and $17 for
non-members, and will be holding our dances at the Pensioner and
Pioneers Pavilion. The facility has a large wood floor and should be
quite suitable for our dances.
I would like to take this opportunity to welcome Lydia, Jacqui
and Sharon to the executive, and I look forward to seeing all our members
out dancing this year.

New Location and Dance Changes
The CDC Executive is please to announce that we have booked the
Pensioners and Pioneers Pavilion (606 Spadina Cres. West.) for the
CDC Dances this year. Along with a location change, the dance lesson
will begin at 7:45p.m., with the dance now going from 8:30p.m. until
12:00 midnight.
We would like to thank the Quality Hotel for their excellent service
and support of our club during the 2000-2001 dance season.
Unfortunately, lack of sufficient suitable dates, rental changes, and
the need to reduce admission rates required us to look elsewhere for a
new venue.
Pre-registration and Membership Fees
As always, memberships expire on August 31. Membership rates remain at
$25 per person. Membership cards from pre-registration will be
available for pick-up at the dances. Please register before September
14, 2001 to be eligible for the early registration draw for two free
admissions to a regular dance! Admission for the regular dances have
decreased! Admission rates for members will be $12.00 for members and
$17.00 for non-members.
Music Committee
As many of you are probably aware, the Classic Dance Club has a Music
Committee to coordinate the previewing of dance music, the creation of
an evening's dance program, and the selection of dance steps for the
lesson. The ongoing effort of this committee is what gives the CDC its
unique flavor of strong dance music from both traditional and modern
sources. You can be a part of this! Any member who owns a CD with one
(or more) songs they think would be a good addition to the Club's
library can ask Garry or Lisa Rebalkin to preview the disk. If the
Committee approves of the song, it gets added to our ever-expanding
library and strengthens the Club's dance music.
