Classic Dance Club
September 2000 Newsletter
Welcome!
We wish to welcome everyone back for the 2000-2001 dance season and the
sixteenth year for the Classic Dance Club. We are sure you are all
looking forward to another year of great dancing just as much as we
are. We hope you will join us for our first dance on Friday,
September 15, 2000, when the lesson will be Cha Cha.
President's Address
It gives me great pleasure to announce the start of the Classic Dance
Club's 2000-2001 season. It has been an exciting and busy summer for
the new executive as we have all been working hard to bring to you a
year of fun, energetic, and smoke-free social dances. I'm looking
forward to working with this year's executive who are a wonderful
group of people. They each bring different talents and abilities, and
are a great team. I'll miss Leah, Sharon, Bob, and Hans who are
unable to commit to another term on the executive. But a warm welcome
is made to Howard and Jason, who are new on this year's executive.
I'm very proud the decision has been made to hold a New Year's Dance,
and am looking forward to an exciting New Year's Eve. I also look
forward to working with you, the membership, as we make this the best
year ever. I hope you all have a great dancing season.

Pre-registration and Membership Fees
As you get ready to dance again this fall, please note that 1999-2000
memberships expire August 31, 2000. Membership rates remain at $25 per
person. Membership cards from pre-registration will be available for
pick-up at the dances. Admission for the regular dances will also
remain at $17.50 for members and $22.50 for non-members.
Music Committee
The Classic Dance Club has a Music Committee to coordinate the previewing
of dance music, the creation of an evening's dance program, and the
selection of dance steps for the lesson. The ongoing effort of this
committee is what gives the CDC its unique flavor of strong dance music
from both traditional and modern sources. You can be a part of this!
Any member who owns a CD with one (or more) songs they think would be
a good addition to the Club's library can ask Garry or Lisa
to preview the disk. If the Committee approves of the song, it gets
added to our ever-expanding library and strengthens the Club's dance
music.
Dance Schedule
Those of you who follow the web page will have noticed that we are
unable to hold a regular dance in November and February, and that the
December dance date is perilously close to Christmas. The executive is
actively pursuing the option of holding a more casual dance in each of
these months. More information will be announced as details are known.
The September 15 dance will be ending at midnight, due to a
commitment of the Hotel.
The October dance will be a ``bring a friend'' dance. Anyone
purchasing a membership on or before the October dance will be able to
have a friend admitted to October dance at the member rate rather than
the non-member rate.
New Year's Eve Dance
The membership has once again voiced their approval of a New Year's Eve
dance, and, once again, the executive is happy to be able to follow through.
The festive event will be held at the Travelodge in the Galaxy ``B'' room.
As at our other successful New Year's dances, there will be a dinner
followed by an evening of dancing to the Club's pre-recorded music.
Tickets are already on sale, and can be purchased before New Year's Eve
at any of the Club dances.
Tickets are $30 for members and $45 for non-members.
